The Final Verdict
If you only take into account the specifications, you wouldn’t consider much of a difference between the Dell U3415W and the Dell U3417W. The size of the screen and the curve are the same, as is the quality of the picture. You might notice a slightly better contrast with the Dell U3417W but not enough to wow you.
We loved the multitasking features, especially drop and drag. You can easily replace 3 or 4 monitors/devices with one of these monitors. And we felt that both had enough connection options, though we did prefer the Dell U3417W for the location of the USB ports.
Our decision was based on two things. The cons that we mentioned and the price. The Dell U3415W had some issues with the HDMI cable but was fixed with a different cable, so not the end of the world. The faulty electrics and sound were too much of a problem to ignore. Although it didn’t happen on all of the monitors, it was something you wouldn’t accept for the price. On the same note, the Dell U3417W was more expensive. With this in mind, we felt that the Dell U3415W was the better monitor.
