The Final Verdict

It’s worth bearing in mind that the maximum speeds, range and battery life will depend on the terrain and the size of the person using it. Don’t be too surprised if the figures vary slightly.

When you look at the basic features, the two scooters are the same. They are very portable, made of excellent quality materials and they do exactly what they have been designed to do- get you from one place to another. The power and battery were also equal when we tested the two using the same sized person. Neither handled hills better or worse than the other, again, with the same sized person.

The difference is what many would call the “bells and whistles”. The additional lights on the Segway ES2 are good and it is fun being able to customize them. It does have dual suspension which is the only really noticeable advantage. While the app is good, it’s not essential.

The problem came down to the price. In the best-case scenario, the Segway ES2 was only around $100 more expensive. Worst case scenario and we were seeing differences of at least $200. For us, we didn’t feel that the dual suspension was worth this difference. For this reason, we decided that the Segway ES1 was better value for money and therefore today’s winner.
