Miele HyClean vs AirClean

You may wonder why on earth we would be reviewing vacuum bags when today’s vacuums are all bagless. Well, Miele vacuum cleaners have an average lifespan of around 15 years, some lasting well into their twenties. For this reason, we felt it was necessary to take a look at two of their Miele vacuum bags, the Miele HyClean vs AirClean. These two vacuum bags are surprisingly different although they can both be used in various Miele models.

Probably an important thing to understand is the market for which the two vacuum bags are designed. The HyClean tends to focus on the European market while the AirClean is more aimed at the United States market. However, don’t let your decision be based on this. Regardless of your continent, the HyClean and AirClean vacuum bags are compatible with Miele vacuums.

We will go over how the two Miele vacuum bags are similar and how they differ. We will go over the product size, filtration systems, and capacity. We also will list the Miele models that you can use with each bag.

You will be able to see exactly what you will receive in the box, as well as some pros and cons of the HyClean and AirClean. For a quick comparison, you can see the chart that contains specific details and most importantly, the Miele vacuum models for each bag.

Table could not be displayed.

Let’s begin with what the vacuum bags have in common.

Both of the bags come with an auto-seal system. This means that once the dirt particles go into the bag, they can’t come out again. This is particularly useful when it comes to changing the vacuum bags, as the job remains mess-free.

Although the filtration systems are different, both bags will capture 99.9% of dust particles, helping to keep the air clean and free from particles.

These are the only two similarities that the bags actually have. Let’s get straight on with the differences.

Miele HyClean vs AirClean: Size and Appearance

Miele HyClean

The appearance of vacuum bags is pretty standard. Most are white with a hole and the front with an attachment so that it lines up correctly with the hose. The size will often depend on the brand.

Miele HyClean

While the size of the bag is exactly the same as the AirClean, they weigh less than half, probably due to the different filtration systems. The HyClean bags come with 3D technology. They have side folds, which inflate to allow for 20% more space than previous bags.

Miele AirClean

The design and size are the same. However, these bags are color-coded so that you can easily identify and replace filter bags.

Because of the 3D technology, the HyClean bags have a capacity of 4.6 quarts.

Pros and Cons

Before giving you our final verdict on the Miele HyClean and Miele AirClean vacuum bags, we have listed some of the pros and cons of each.

The Miele HyClean

Pros:

  • They feel really secure once they are fitted into the vacuum, reassures you that the dust is actually going in the bag
  • Its good value for money, especially when you buy the multipacks and even though they are more expensive than non-branded vacuum bags, they work far better
  • They are easy to use
  • The material feels like good quality and they are well made

Cons:

  • Some people have received what looks like a copy, or the vacuum bags not in their original box

The Miele AirClean

Pros:

  • The bags are extremely strong, tried and tested on the sand and they don’t tear or break
  • Having the additional filter layers makes a difference in the overall quality of the air
  • They are really easy to install, the have a tight fit so nothing escapes
  • Those who suffer from allergies will appreciate how well these vacuum bags work

Cons:

  • It’s a shame they aren’t a little bit bigger

The Final Verdict

The final verdict today is only really relevant if you have a vacuum model that will fit either of the bags. That being said, both the HyClean and the AirClean are excellent options to use in a vacuum of such great quality.

They both have the auto-seal system to lock in the dirt and they will both capture up to 99.9% of the dirt. It is definitely worth buying either option if you have a Miele vacuum.

The overall winner is the Miele HyClean. We felt that the larger capacity due to the 3D technology made quite a difference for us. We didn’t have to change the bag so often. Although it has fewer layers of filtration, 9 layers are still quite a lot. The fleece material works very well and it is still a strong bag.

We also liked the fact that the HyClean bags are compatible with more Miele vacuum models and that there are more buying options in terms of the packs. It is wise to buy Miele vacuum bags in the multipack of 16; you will have quality vacuum bags for absolute ages as well as saving yourself some extra money.
