Appearance

At first glance, you will notice that the Bissell 1806 and the Bissell 1940 are both white but with different colored features. The Bissell 1806 has sapphire blue features whereas the Bissell 1940 has purple features. Apart from this, they look the same. They are both white and look just like an upright vacuum cleaner. They are 9.5 x 13 x 45 inches and weigh 6.2 pounds.

Cleaning Power

The Bissell 1806 is a 12 Amp steam mop. The Bissell 1940 is advertised at having 1500  watts, which works out to be 12.5 Amps. So, you aren’t going to notice any difference in the power of either of the steam mops. Both will sanitize 99.9% of germs and bacteria.

The Water Tank

The tank of a steam mop can have a capacity of anywhere from 10oz to approximately 16oz. A larger tank means you don’t have to refill the tank as often, therefore you will have more cleaning time. Both of these Bissell steam mops have a 16oz capacity, a great advantage regardless of the size if your house. Surprisingly, it still only takes around 30 seconds for the water to heat up and for the mops to start producing hot steam.

Ease of Use

Both the Bissell 1806 and the Bissell 1940 have a 12-inch cleaning path. This is quite a standard width for steam mops and even vacuums. They have a 25ft power cord, which is again, towards the higher end of the average. This longer power cord will allow you to reach even the corners of a room with less chance of having to change the power outlet. There is on-board cord storage on both of these steam mops.

Floor Types

If you choose the Bissell 1806 or the Bissell 1940, you will be able to steam clean your sealed hardwood floor, ceramic tile, marble, and linoleum or vinyl.

You can also buy scented distilled water to use with the Bissell steam mops. The company recommends using distilled water because it prolongs the lifespan of the steam mop and leaves your home with a certain smell.

You can choose from these fragrances:

  • Spring Breeze
  • Citrus
  • Eucalyptus Mint

The scented water is sold separately, as are the packs of fragrance disc. However, you will receive 2 fragrance discs with the Bissell 1806 and the Bissell 1940.

Additional Cleaning Abilities

Regardless of how amazing a steam mop is, there will be times when tough sticky messes and stains on the floor won’t budge. For this, you will need a little extra help.

Bissell 1806

This has a very practical solution. The main handle and the water tank come off and on the base, there is a spot boost brush. It is easy to use and doesn’t require any bending over to scrub the floor.

Bissell 1940

On the base of the steam mop, there is a flip-down Easy Scrubber. If you come across a difficult patch of dirt, you can flip down the scrubber with your foot and release it again once you have finished.

Pros and Cons

This is truly a difficult decision. We will now look over some of the pros and cons of the Bissell 1806 and the Bissell 1940.

  • There is no residue left on the floor. The floor is dry almost instantly

The Final Verdict

First of all, We have to commend Bissell for its dedication to pets. Not only are their products pet-friendly, but a portion of each sale goes to the Bissell Pet Foundation. This way you know your purchase is doing some good for animals too.

This was a very difficult choice. There are some fundamentals that are exactly the same and won’t influence the buyer’s decision. The size, weight, swivel steering and the fact that 99.9% of the germs and bacteria will be killed, no harsh chemicals required are the same for the Bissell 1806 and the Bissell 1940.

Also, extra Bissell products are also the same. You can buy the scented water and scent disc to use with both of the Bissell steam mops. It is great that you get 2 fragrance pads to try, offering you the chance to see if it is a feature you want to use. Even if you choose not to use the scented water, Bissell strongly recommends using distilled water.

So the decision came down to three things, the color, the steam settings, and the additional cleaning abilities. Personally, we loved the Bissell 1940 for the purple features and having the extra steam setting. However, this wasn’t enough for it to win.

The winner today was the Bissell 1806 and this came down to one principle reason. The onboard spot brush really is excellent and is a great help for those stubborn areas. It was much more effective than the flip-down easy scrubber and this was enough to put the Bissell 1806 a step ahead.
