What`s in the box?

Logitech mk550

The set consists of MK550 Keyboard and the K350 laser mouse. Both devices do their job well. In the package you will also get a USB extension cable, so you can keep it on your table and connect a small USB dongle to a computer. The batteries for the keyboard and the mouse are pre-installed, just pull the protective plastic cover.

Logitech mk710

The MK710 set contains the MK700 keyboard and the wireless Marathon Laser Mouse M705. Both are good by themselves and in a set. In the package, you will find a USB extension cord and batteries for the mouse and the keyboard.

The winner is: it is a tie. Both sets come with the same equipment.

Size and design

Logitech mk550

The dimensions are 10.44 x 3.09 x 19.69 in, and the weight is around 2,2lbs. It is not a small keyboard. It has a lot of “meat” around the keys. The extra space is due to the palm rest and extra navigational buttons.  The result is that it will take more space than other keyboards. For some that will be a small price to pay for getting so many programmable function buttons and large and well-arranged media buttons.

The design is nice and modern, a combination of mat black and glossy finish plastic materials. The mouse also fits in with a modern design. It has a curvy design with a lot of programmable buttons.

Logitech mk550

Logitech mk710

The dimensions are 18.9 x 2.9 x 9.9 in, and the weight is 1,45 lbs. Also- not a small keyboard.  But still smaller than the mk550 model. He downside is that it has less programmable function buttons, and you get fewer media buttons and they are not that well arranged as with the mk550

Both the keyboard and the mouse look modern and have a good finish.

The winner is Logitech mk710. It is slightly smaller, and the mk550 design is an acquired taste that some people may dislike.

Logitech mk550 vs mk710: Functionality

Logitech mk550

The setup is pretty easy. After turning on, the devices will connect to the computer You can change functions of the programmable buttons through a downloadable app. The keyboard has a full stroke key, which is a rare thing these days, some people may call it obsolete. But professionals who like to feel keys going in will appreciate it. What will maybe present a problem to them are the different height keys, so the muscle memory might need some time to adjust.

The system uses a 2.4 GHz wireless connection, which is a good way to avoid interferences, but some radio or wireless equipment may disturb the signal. If you notice that, place that equipment away. The supplied batteries should keep this set going for a long time, almost two million strokes, or about two to three years.

Logitech mk710

Logitech mk710

Logitech mk710

The install part is done fast. Like the previous model, all you need is to turn it on. Working with media is not that easy as with mk550, because the mk710 has fewer media buttons, they are smaller and not so well laid-out. It also lacks programmable buttons.

The upside is that it has led indicators for the status of battery power, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and Num Lock, while the mk550 doesn’t.

The system also uses a 2.4 GHz signal, so there is not much sense to interferences. It is also an energy saver, so the supplied batteries should be enough for two to three years of normal use.

The winner is Logitech mk550. It has programmable buttons and better media control buttons.

Logitech mk550 vs mk710: Comfort

Logitech mk710 review

Logitech mk550

This model has large palm rests and a curved structure that follows the natural position of the hands. Different height keys are there to follow the natural difference in finger length. Along with three levels oh height adjustment, this makes this keyboard very comfortable for long work hours. The mouse follows that guideline with a curved shape, soft and well-placed buttons. What some users hold against this model is that the palm rest make them sweat in that area.

Logitech mk710

This wireless keyboard also has a large palm rest but doesn’t have the curved and angled structure. The wireless mouse is also less curved than the one in the mk550 set. It doesn’t, however, make it uncomfortable. You can spend hours working on this keyboard and mouse without too much strain. The upside to the lack of an angled keyboard is that professionals with developed muscle memory will have no problem using it.

The winner is Logitech mk550. After the initial period, you need to get used to the layout, it will prove more comfortable.

Logitech mk550 vs mk710: Price

Logitech mk550

Logitech mk550

The price sets this wireless combo in the lower half of the category, but it provides more. Curved structure, large soft palm rest and many programmable function buttons are more than competitors provide for that price.

Logitech mk710

The price also sets this wireless keyboard and mouse in the lower half of the category. Again, the model provides more than the price says it does. Large soft palm rests, LED indicators, good laser mouse is what you get for an acceptable price.

The winner is: it is a tie. They are both similarly priced.

Wrap up

The Logitech mk550 vs Logitech mk710 are very similar, and yet so different. The largest difference is in the layout. It turns out that it’s not only visual but also functional. The angled layout will suit more the people that don’t have too developed muscle memory, not professional typists. The standard layout will be better for professionals.

However, whichever you choose, functionality and comfort will not be an issue.
